In July 2020 Liverpool City Council announced a £200,000 fund to support creative businesses and individuals who have been hardest hit by Covid-19. Following hundreds of applications, almost 50 cultural organisations and freelance artists were awarded funding to help bring the city’s streets to life once again with its world-famous cultural offer.

From live music, theatrics, dance, light installations, murals and photography to exhibitions and street animation a whole host of stunning performances took place in outdoor spaces during the months of August and September.

Due to the huge success of round one, in June 2021 an additional £100,000 fund was announced by Liverpool City Council to support cultural organisations in delivering new outdoor festivals. Once again, a huge number of applications were received and 9 organisations were awarded with funding to help bring festival vibes back to the city!

More exciting festivals will be revealed over the coming months, so get social and join in the conversations to stay in the know.

“We were delighted to hear that our application to the Without Walls Festival Fund had been successful. Putting on a new event at any time is difficult, and the pandemic has made planning even more difficult, so this financial support from Culture Liverpool is vital. We’re honoured to be presenting the Jamaica Street Carnival Party, a modern day carnival celebration of Liverpool’s cultural heritage. The event will blend international stars like Kranium, David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan, Alicai Harley and with the best of the blooming local music scene showing the world once again that Liverpool’s black culture has global reach. Events like this bring communities together in a positive way and are essential for continuing Liverpool’s legacy as a cultural powerhouse.”

“We are truly excited to be part of the Liverpool Without Walls programme and are really pleased with the support from Culture Liverpool. It is so important that support is being made available for events like La FERIA after such a long period when it has been difficult to do anything for a real live audience. People need to be able to be outside and enjoy outdoor performances.”

Creative Director and CEO of LUMA Creations (aka One Latin Culture), Francisco Carrasco

“I am absolutely delighted to receive a grant from Liverpool City Council to enable the return and growth of Liverpool Theatre Festival. The event has been so well received and provides a wonderful platform to showcase regional talent in an iconic outdoor setting. I am thankful that Liverpool City Council and Culture Liverpool have recognised the ambition to grow the festival which has already established itself in the city’s cultural events calendar”.

Festival Director of Liverpool Theatre Festival, Bill Elms

“The Without Walls project is a great opportunity for us to re-connect with city centre audiences on Bonfire weekend – our favourite time of the year! We’re over the moon about having been awarded Without Walls funding and we have some very special skills up our sleeve to showcase at the festival. It’s so important in these challenging times to remain upbeat and we are hoping to bring some cheer to the community.”

Artistic Director of Bring The Fire Project, Szymon Mamys
