In the late 90s until the early 2000s, UK Garage music dominated the underground and the charts simultaneously, creating household names of those behind the music and breaking musical boundaries. DJ Spoony, widely known as one of the founding fathers of UK Garage, is set to curate and present a never before seen or heard concept in the world of UK Garage music. Many of the biggest classics in UK Garage played with the support of the 40 piece RNCM Orchestra and the help of some garage in heroes in the shape of Kele Le Roc, Elizabeth Troy, Lonyo, Master Of Ceremonies and many more. Some of the songs that will be re-presented on the evening will include ‘Body Groove’ by the Architects, ‘Sincere’ by MJ Cole, ‘Flowers’ by Sweet Female Attitude, ‘My Love’ by Kele Le Roc and ‘Summer of Love’ by Lonyo.

DJ Spoony comments, “Not only is this an honour for me to curate such a performance, but an amazing opportunity to showcase how important UK Garage has been to this country’s musical fabric. We have some of the the biggest tracks and best performers associated with the genre all backed for the first time ever by a full live orchestra. Liverpool, I cannot wait.”

Katie Chatburn, Senior Lecturer RNCM and Composer said: “I originally listened to this music in clubs and now feel privileged that I’m getting the opportunity to help bring it to a new audience in an original and exciting way. The young people involved in the orchestra have really responded to the music, which says so much about its legacy as a genre. Garage has always been culturally significant, but this celebration of the music itself is long overdue. If I didn’t have to conduct I’d definitely be dancing, the crowd is in for a treat!”

Adding to the experience, more UK Garage favourites will also perform on the Central stage including So Solid Crew, Donaeo, and Artful Dodger. With other stages performances will come from The Farm, Logan Sama, XamVolo and many more. On the same evening, Liverpool’s own House music legend Yousef will be hosting ‘Circus Year One’ celebration at Sefton Park’s Palm House with Claude Von Stroke, Lewis Boardman and very special guest Josh Wink as part of the LIMF Presents programme.

Taking place between Thursday 20th and Sunday 23rd July 2017, LIMF is a grand-scale celebration of Liverpool’s rich musical history, diversity and continued relevance, reflected in its title as a Unesco City of Music. LIMF is made up of LIMF Summer Jam, a series of ticketed events LIMF Presents and the award-winning LIMF Academy. For more information, visit www.limfestival.com.
