Applications are open to all unemployed people age 16+ who live in the Liverpool City Region and in celebration of BHM, and to encourage diversity of entrants, we positively welcome applications from people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
The day will comprise of three workshops led by local writers and performers: Amina Atiq, Blue Saint and Leonisha Barley.
All participants will receive a free lunch, access to resources and a certificate of completion. Travel expenses can be reimbursed if required.
Amina Atiq is a Yemeni-Scouse published writer, performance artist, workshop facilitator, and award-winning community activist. She was a BBC Words First Finalist 2019 & Young Associate & Anti-racism group member for Curious Minds. Amina is a Fellow at DaDaFest, Social Cohesion Fellow of Humboldt Foundation Residency 2022 & Artist fellow Metal Liverpool, who uses poetry to explore her Yemeni heritage. Her identity lies in Yemen and in her current home, Liverpool, and her lyrical delivery reveals the beauty of both.
Blue Saint was part of Writing on the Wall’s Liverpool Young Writers at the ages twelve to sixteen, winner of The Poetry Society’s SLAMbassadors Award at fourteen, a MOBO BeMOBO Award nominee at the age of fifteen and winner of Merseyrail Soundstation 2014 at the age of twenty, a prize celebrating breaking new talent in the Liverpool music scene. Blue Saint has also gone on to receive various accolades and achievements for his music, community work and activism. He was included in Liverpool Echo’s “30 under 30: The young people changing the face of Liverpool in 2020”.
Leonisha Barley is a lover of all things creative and a past participant on WoW’s highly acclaimed Write to Work project. She is an emerging actress and playwright from Liverpool. She endeavours to create work for stage and TV that celebrates culture and life experiences while addressing important societal issues. Leonisha enjoys using poetry as a powerful tool to express emotion and tell a story. She’s looking forward to diving deeper into the creative industry through writing and acting. Hopefully you’ll be seeing her work soon on a stage near you!
Applicants MUST read all the eligibility requirements below before applying. Applications from ineligible applicants will not be accepted.
- You must be currently unemployed (we cannot accept registered as self-employed, or in full-time education or university).
- You must have the legal right to live and work in the UK.
- You must currently live in the Liverpool City Region, including the parts of the Wirral listed as Merseyside, Liverpool, Sefton, Halton, St Helens, Knowsley.
- You cannot have already completed any Write to Work Course or mentoring previously.
- If you are being supported by another organisation or charity that is part of the Direction LCR partnership, or the New Horizons ESF programme, unfortunately you are not eligible to apply for Write to Work. (If you are unsure, please contact us on the email address below)
