Bringing Khaled Hosseini’s internationally bestselling novel to life, The Kite Runner direct from its acclaimed Broadway season is set to make a triumphant return to the Liverpool Playhouse from Tuesday 23 April to Saturday 27 April 2024.

Originally produced by Nottingham Playhouse and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, The Kite Runner first captivated Liverpool audiences in 2013 and returned as part of a UK tour in 2018. It garnered rave reviews and deeply moved audiences with its outstanding and unforgettable performances. Following its local success, the play went on to have hit seasons in both the West End and on Broadway.

The cast of The Kite Runner features Stuart Vincent (The Kite Runner, UK tour; The Play That Goes Wrong, West End) in the role of Amir. Amir’s best friend, Hassan, and later his son Sohrab, are portrayed by Yazdan Qafouri (The Lord of The Rings and Othello, both The Watermill Theatre; The Band, West End). Daphne Kouma (The Beekeeper of Aleppo, Liverpool Playhouse and A Christmas Carol, West End) plays Soraya, Amir’s wife and Aram Mardourian (The Beekeeper of Aleppo, Liverpool Playhouse/UK Tour; The Night of the Iguana, The Ustinov Theatre) as Kamal.

Several actors are making a return appearance in this production of The Kite Runner, including Dean Rehman (Idle They Yammer, The Other Room) brings to life the character of Baba, Amir’s father and Bhavin Bhatt (The Kite Runner, West End which saw him named Best Newcomer at the Asian Media Awards) who plays the antagonist Assef. Along with Tiran Aakel (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Liverpool Playhouse; The Jungle, West End) take on the roles of Ali and Farid, with Ian Abeysekera (Twelfth Night, RSC; Enemy of the People, Tara Arts) appearing as General Taheri. Stanton Wright (Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto Sleeping Beauty, Liverpool Everyman; Twelfth Night, RSC) as Wali, while Christopher Glover (Oliver!, Leeds Playhouse; The Card, New Vic) as Rahim Khan. The ensemble includes Amar Aggoun and Sulin Hasso, along with Hanif Khan, the Tabla player.

The Kite Runner is adapted by Matthew Spangler (The Beekeeper of Aleppo, Liverpool Playhouse) and directed by Giles Croft (The Kite Runner 2013 and The Price, both Liverpool Playhouse; Tony’s Last Tape, Liverpool Everyman).
