Dear Eliza is a brand new one-woman short-play investigating the deterioration of a friendship under the strain of mental ill health.

In a media culture that either villainises or victimises the mentally ill, Dear Eliza navigates the grey area with guts and defiance. Bold, cynical, and admirably candid, the play weaponises a ‘been there, done that’ attitude, masterfully balancing heartbreak with humour to create an honest tribute to real life as a mentally ill person.

The play contains trigger warnings for strong language and mentions of suicide (it is recommended 16+). It tours to Liverpool from the 15th-17th February at The Studio Below. Tickets are £6-8, with concessions available for students and OAP’s.

Writer and performer Barbara Diesel premiered Dear Eliza at The Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in 2023. The play was shortlisted for the Best Newcomer award and has been dubbed a ‘hidden gem of [the fringe]’ by Lost In Theatreland. Audiences gave rave reviews for its nuanced narrative, thought-provoking dialogue, and spectacular solo performance. One audience member stated: ‘Barbara’s performance has you hooked on every word, the light and shade of the script expertly brought to life onstage.’
