Unity Through Song was a song-based project led by Professor Stephen Davismoon with support from Liverpool Hope University. Davismoon worked alongside a team of professional artists to involve children and young people with learning disabilities and/or special educational needs from Sandfield Park and Altbridge Schools in this project.

A short medley of song-based material was created to celebrate and blend songs from the musical heritage of Liverpool and Ukraine. This utilised innovative technology to ensure the young people could perform their own composition.

The project ran from Wednesday 1 March until Friday 12 May and featured artists: Stephen Davismoon, Sadie Smith, Dove Ross Williams, Tom Newall, Steve Brookfield, Immix Ensemble and Mike Moran with support from Liverpool Hope University.

The workshops led to a beautiful series of performances and was filmed and recorded for the young people, their families and schools. The young people had the opportunity to perform on the Eurovision Village stage in the week leading up to the Eurovision Song Contest final.

The team at Liverpool Hope University have have released the song, ‘You Are Not Alone,’ that pupils from Sandfield School in West Derby and Altbridge School in Huyton performed and recorded as a charity single in aid of Ukraine. You can purchase the single on Amazon. Any support you can give would be enormously appreciated by the young people involved in the project as well as those in Ukraine.
