Standing in solidarity with Ukrainian people, community arts and food organisation Squash Liverpool made a joyful project of unity as part of the Eurovision Community and Education programme.

Everyone was welcome to celebrate Eurovision, in solidarity with Ukrainian people, at the Solidarity Disco Banquets across Liverpool!

With beautiful songs from amazing singers, cooking delicious Ukrainian-inspired foods, people got to dance while they cooked and shared a wonderful banquet together. Banquets took place at the following venues across the month of May:

  • Lister steps at The Old Library
  • Liverpool Lighthouse
  • Squash
  • Association of Ukrainians

Squash and a wonderful team of Ukrainian and Liverpool-based singers, artists and chefs came together with community members across the city, shared culture, music, song, design, embroidery, food and disco-dancing.

To continue the legacy of this event, artist Tabitha Moses is working with embroiderers from across the city to create the Solidarity Tablecloth. This new artwork is the legacy of Solidarity Disco Banquets; a joyful project of unity.

You can come and see how the sewing is going! Pop into Squash on Wednesday 12 July 6pm – 7pm or Saturday 15 July 1pm – 2pm. The completed Solidarity Tablecloth will be first shared at Squash’s Lughnasadh Celebration in the garden on Friday 4 August 12pm – 2pm. Find out more about the Solidarity Tablecloth here.
