Metal have been commissioned to deliver a series of artistic interventions in the Picton area to activate local creativity leading up to a large-scale celebration in 2024.
The work is being developed alongside colleagues across Liverpool City Council. The project builds on the success of the Four Corners Artists in Residence commission with Metal, developed as part of the European Capital of Culture Creative Neighbourhoods programme in 2008.
The programme will bring together artists, community organisers, young people and other curious residents to celebrate creativity, exploring new ways of getting together through play. Delivered across three distinct phases, PICTON PLAY will involve hosting artists in unexpected places – from the 86 bus to a supermarket carpark – through a series of open call residencies, meals, pop-up events and commissions. The final phase will involve a large-scale celebration for the local community.
The video below shows some outcomes from the first phase with Listening Residency artist Josh Coates.
