Tour hits city for the first time as part of 32-date series featuring shows, lectures and workshops.

Red Bull Music Academy today announces plans for its month-long 2016 UK Tour, stopping in Liverpool, Glasgow, London, and Leeds for a series of back-to-back mini-festivals. The Tour will visit Liverpool for the first time, recognising the city’s place as a vital hub for music and culture in the UK. From 6th – 9th October, the musical icons and rising stars of the city will be given the platform to throw down and celebrate their contribution to the UK’s scene. They’ll be joined by international names that connect the dots between the UK and a global exchange of musical ideas.
The programme continues the Academy’s nearly 20-year mission to celebrate and educate within music, shining a light on vital artists and movements from music’s past, present and future. Across genres as diverse as hip hop, grime, soul, house, techno, garage and electro, the RBMA UK Tour will present club nights, studio sessions, AV shows, art installations, radio broadcasts and, ever at the centre of the Academy experience, intimate live lectures with some of today’s most important artists. Running concurrently in October, the Red Bull Music Academy itself lands in Montreal, with an accompanying programme of events to be announced.
The Liverpool leg kicks off with a mesmerising showcase of future soul from Red Bull Music Academy alumni Jamie Woon, Red Bull studio affiliate SG Lewis, and Merseyside native, Suedebrown. Later proceedings get a shot of adrenaline as Greg Wilson pays Credit To The Edit with fellow discophiles Henry Greenwood, Peza, and Derek Kaye. One of grime’s most stellar success stories, Krept and Konan pull up a chair to give us the inside track on how they maintained their credibility alongside a major label deal, before bringing the Future Sounds of Hip Hop to Camp & Furnace, with Rejjie Snow, Loyle Carner, Suicideyear, and Siobhan Bell. In nearby Ropewalks, a house and hip hop history lesson gets underway with the master Kenny Dope supported by Kidkanevil and No Fakin’ resident Paddy at The Merchant. Things will be getting all cosmic, as Detroit icon Moodymann takes over the Invisible Wind Factory with laser modules, mirrored kinetic sculptures, and a stellar line up featuring Hunee b2b Young Marco, Sassy J and Or:La, before Sunday brings weight as D Double E lays down the gauntlet to MCs Jammz, Ocean Wisdom, Footsie, Lady Leshurr, AJ Tracey and Santan Dave for a beatles recital within the imposing St. George’s hall.
Other featured headline events across the Tour’s four weekends include lectures from Dizzee Rascal, Kano and Young Fathers; a coin operated laundrette takeover with Jackmaster; DJ Harvey’s return to Leeds after a hiatus of 25 years; and grime showcases marshalled by scene heavyweights Slimzee and Sir Spyro; and workshops with studio experts such as Mumdance, Gorgon City and Shura.
