Over 80 of the best local independent businesses are set to be showcased at the very first St George’ Hall Market.
On Father’s Day, Sunday 16 June, one of Liverpool’s best-loved buildings will become a bustling marketplace as the Summer Market brings a whole range of stallholders to both the inside and outside of the hall.
Visitors will be able to eat their way around the world at an outdoor food zone on the plateau, at the Lime Street Station end, where there will be Chinese food and a Polish barbeque to name just two choices. And there are loads of sweet treats as well with crepes, cakes and some of the best chocolate makers coming along.
The food and drink offer continues inside where there will be a fizz bar along with 60 further artists, makers and distillers who will be showcasing their wonderful products.
Shoppers will also be able to enjoy live music as they browse.
Entry to the market is free and it will be open from 10.30am – 4.30pm.
It is hoped that the market will be held on a seasonal basis.
Liverpool is home to a well-established markets offer, from the weekly Great Homer Street Market – Greatie Market – to a regular programme of farmers’ and craft markets. Please visit the Council’s markets webpages for more information.
A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council:
“We’re really looking forward to bringing a new market into Liverpool’s historic St George’s Quarter.
“The plateau and St John’s Gardens have been the home to our popular Christmas market for a number of years so it will be great to see stallholders at the Hall during the summer months. “We had a fantastic response to the call out for traders that we issued in May and we can’t wait to welcome them on Father’s Day along with plenty of shoppers who are looking to enjoy a great day out in a unique venue.”
Local artist and trader Sandra Hepworth said:
“As a trader at the council’s Farmers’ Markets for over 20 years it is always exciting to have new destinations and St George’s Hall has to be the jewel in the crown.
“I exhibited there many times in the past with my Liverpool Art, and the atmosphere and surroundings with its history makes it a fabulous experience and with many local traders exhibiting there it is definitely a day not to be missed.”
Chocolatier Stephen Ellis, from Coco Baroque, said:
“St George’s Hall is a world-renowned part of Liverpool with its history.
“It is fantastic to see it utilised as a stage for some of the many independent businesses that call Liverpool home.”
