The outbreak of the First World War was a turning point in world history and for Liverpool. Given the city’s geographical position, Liverpool was nominated to become one of the chief bases of wartime operations.
When the Royal de Luxe Giants returned to our city once again in 2014, it was Liverpool’s vital role in the run up to and during WW1 that provided the narrative for the second instalment of the ‘Giant Spectacular’ trilogy, namely ‘Memories of August 1914’.
The participation programme created to accompany this wonderfully moving event needed to be special, in order to tell the story of Liverpool’s unique involvement in the First World War and that of the many sacrifices made.
