Get on board the 1903 Mersey-built steam tugboat Daniel Adamson, for three days of celebration with talks, tours, sharing of objects, documents and stories from the Battle of the Atlantic.

With performances from shanty singers, including the Port Sunlight Sea Dogs and Gerry Ffrench and Yesterday’s Men.

The 1903 SS Daniel Adamson was based on the Manchester Ship Canal during WWII, and her role during the Battle of the Atlantic consisted of towing into port the vessels that had safely crossed the Atlantic destined for Manchester.

Many of the volunteers involved in the return to operation of this steam vessel spent a life at sea, or came from seafaring families, and the commemoration on board is a personal paying of respects from Danny volunteers, friends and supporters, who are sharing their own personal archives of images and documents from the Battle of the Atlantic, and putting together a programme featuring talks, songs, and moments of sharing memories.

Connecting you with the changing face of seafaring up to the present day, Danny skipper Captain Dave Mc Namee is giving a talk on his 50 years at sea, and Sefton Sea Cadets are supporting the stewarding of the event. Singer Gerry Ffrench shares moving images and documents of her father and uncle’s service in the navy and army in World War II and performs the song she wrote about her uncle’s journey.
