Blowing a Raspberry at Hitler: A Story of WATU, the WRNS and the War at Sea is a fantastic piece of theatre written and performed by the LJMU drama department. It explores the story of the women of the Western Approaches Tactical Unit (WATU) at Western Approaches. Expect a funny, poignant and a meticulously researched interpretation of the WATU genius.

It is January 1942 and the Naval Players at Western Approaches are getting ready for their new year variety show. But Britain is just three months away from starving, as ships are being hunted down by packs of U-boats and men are dying in the icy waters of the Atlantic.

Gilbert Roberts has been summoned to set up WATU (Western Approaches Tactical Unit) with a group of WRNS to discover the tactics needed to defeat the U-Boats. With just some chalk and string and a few songs, can they find a way to win the biggest battle of the Second World War?
