Striving to add a positive narrative to that of 1981 Liverpool 8 (Toxteth), you’re invited to join us as we ensure the documentation of an empowering grassroots movements.

On the back end of the 1981 uprisings, an African Dance collective made up of Liverpool 8 individuals formed, grew into a company and toured the country throughout the 1980s yet they go undocumented, but not for long! It’s time mark the legacy of those who are now community elders and remember those who are no longer with us.

It’s time to recollect and honour the work of the collective who were named ‘Delado.’ They initiated in Liverpool 8 (1981). Ex-members have said – “It was very edifying to our souls. We had a sense of purpose, coming together in Liverpool 8, becoming performers and giving back to people we all joined that force.”

“We broke barriers logically and racially with love and passion because we was in areas where there was no black people.”

There are many more quotes from members in the booklet we’ll be giving out at the event. Alongside that, attendees can expect powerful retrospective dialogue, a feel of their rhythm and some good food.

The event will be held at Museum of Liverpool leading on from their Slavery Remembrance Day walk through the city centre. The event will start at 3pm ending by 5pm on Wednesday 23rd August. No sign up or ticket is required.
