Xīn Nián Kuài Lè! 新年快乐 Happy Chinese New Year!
Join us in 2020 as we welcome the Year of the Rat during our Chinese New Year celebrations right here in the heart of Liverpool’s Chinatown.
In the lead up to this annual Spring Festival thousands of Chinese lanterns will adorn the city centre streets and a number of buildings including Central Library Picton Colonnades, Cunard Building, Liverpool Town Hall, St George’s Hall, Toxteth Library, World Museum Liverpool, Open Eye Gallery, Everyman & Playhouse Theatres, Liverpool ONE and the Mersey Tunnels George’s Dock Building will be illuminated red in honour of this age old tradition, signifying good fortune and joy to everyone.
Beginning at 11am on Sunday 26th January, the celebrations will once again blend Chinese cultural history with elements of the modern to bring a mixture of street and stage performances, aerial displays by the Black-e, family workshops, a fairground, Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dancer parades, firecracker displays and of course the popular Chinese market on George Street selling gifts, souvenirs and mouth-watering food.
The celebrations are scheduled to finish at 5pm. Whether you go by train or by bus please plan your onward journey.
Stagecoach offer a Megarider option where you can travel as much as you like in your area, as often as you like, whenever you like all week with just one ticket!
