An exciting new tourist art trail is coming to New Brighton, celebrating the local legend of The Black Rock Mermaid.

The Mermaid Trail features six identical statues designed and created by local artist Barry Canning-Eaton. They have been individually decorated by four local schools, a community group and the artist himself.

The statues will be unveiled in sequence following the trail map which has been designed by local illustrator, Anita Cunningham of Fat Cat Illustration. The story of the local legend will be told by local storyteller, Cathy Roberts, of Literally A Bookshop.

At 2.45pm the sixth statue, decorated by Barry Canning-Eaton, will be unveiled by the Mayor of Wirral at Victoria Road, New Brighton (near to The Olive Tree restaurant).

The earlier unveilings will commence at 11am at the first statue by the Championship Adventure Golf on Kings Parade.

The project has been kindly funded by DONG Energy’s Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund.
