From Now On is a participative installation artwork consisting of items donated or suggested by the people of Liverpool relating to their experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Laid out in the shape of  letters: H,O,P & E, the installation both commemorates the Covid-19 pandemic and enables the city of Liverpool to move on from its experiences of 2020 and 2021.  It is installed in the contemplative atmosphere of Liverpool Cathedral.

Community organisations/groups, and individuals participated by nominating an item for the letters which was emblematic of their pandemic experience.  This cathartic process enabled residents and visitors to the city to physically put the trauma of Covid-19 behind them.

Engagement in the project was delivered by cultural/creative practitioners Travelled Companions. Donated items were uploaded to an online archive which will remain as a semi-permanent presence for the project, Very Public Art and the pandemic

The items were collated and designed by local artist Eilidh Bryan.  Grouped into items that reflect areas such as childhood in the pandemic, lockdown activities (including baking, knitting and exercise) and incorporating tributes to loved ones lost to Covid-19, the installation is a moving reminder of what we have all been through. Each item holds a personal ‘pandemic story’ for people from across the city.

The memories they conjure may be fond or they may be bittersweet.  They might make people smile or cry. Either way, this personal, symbolic, fun and poignant artwork asks us to remember what we have learnt about ourselves over the past months as well as to embrace the audacity of hope.
