In a new commission created by Kazimier Productions and brought to you by Culture Liverpool and Liverpool BID CompanyFalling Stars will transform the length of Bold Street in an ethereal display of light and sound. A place suspended in time – a reflection of the street’s history but also drawing our gaze upwards to the stars, of what lies beyond.

During the Blitz in 1941, St. Luke’s Church Liverpool was struck by an explosive device, destroying the eight bells housed in the Church tower. Falling Stars will seek to highlight the absence of these lost Church bells, a reminder of the echo that would have once rung across this neighbourhood.

Embracing the linear and aerial perspective of this City Centre location, Falling Stars will present this treasured area in a completely new light. Powerful lasers will shine from the Bell tower of St. Luke’s onto 8 glistening Stars, suspended along the length of Bold Street, bathing the night sky in colour.

The incredible physical span of the piece will provide the public with endless viewing possibilities, each vantage point providing its own unique immersive experience. Every half-hour the installation will perform a choreographed sequence, animating Bold Street and bringing life to St. Luke’s Church, linking these two iconic sites of Liverpool for the festive season.

STAR CYCLE

The star is one of our cosmos’s undeniable wonders. Stellar evolution charts a star’s life for what can be longer than the current age of the universe, some ending quietly, others collapsing dramatically into white dwarfs or supernova’s.

Star Cycle is a new piece from the Kazimier created for Castle Street Liverpool. An immersive audio visual installation aiming to illustrate this vast cosmological evolution, of unquantifiable periods, into a condensed animation. It will transform Castle Street into an

ephemeral and other worldly place, operating within a different measurement of time. The piece will aim to re-visit Castle Street and Liverpool Town Hall’s 19th century architectural heritage, a time when it was adorned in Victorian street lighting, one of the city’s most strategically important locations.

Ten individually controlled standing ‘star lanterns’ will be positioned along the street, incorporating a full spectrum light system with integrated sound source for localised audio. A series of reflective discs will rotate within each ‘star lantern’ creating slow changes, casting

shards of reflecting light and shadows across the surrounding buildings.

Daytime:

The mirrored stars will shimmer and rotate, refracting shards of sunlight across the street. The Stars will have their own internal highpower

LED light system to illuminate themselves. The lasers will not be operational.

Night-time:

During the evening the piece will be silent, with the laser projectors and stars running through a slowly evolving sequence

Hourly Bell-Ringing:

An hourly synchronised set-piece and accompanying sound composition will use ‘distant’ bell tones to create a short rhythmical piece. The

installation will animate Bold Street and bring life to St. Luke’s Church. Sound will come from a highly focused speaker-source located at ground level of the tower in the Church.
