NOW: A dialogue on female Chinese contemporary artists is a two-part moving image programme curated by Bren O’Callaghan that addresses notions of modernity, tradition and technique. NOW is a collaborative programme aimed at reinvigorating discussion around the role of female contemporary artists in the art ecology of present day China.

Volume 1

From the destructive symbolism of Miss Melissa and Mr Fish at 2.31pm by Peng Yun to the world of Chinese live streaming platforms from Miao Ying. Also including work by Ma Qiusha, Hu Xiaoyuan, Chi Jang Yin, Yao Qingmei and Wang New One.

Volume 2

Guan Xiao proposes that armchair travel can be transformative in Weather Forecast, while Geng Xue’s stop-motion fairytale incorporates exquisite porcelain puppetry. Also including work by Shiyuan Liu, Hao Jingban, Wang Xin, Liang Yue and Liu Yi.

These screenings are part of China Dream: Contemporary Chinese Arts x Liverpool. A major arts season telling the stories of the Chinese Diaspora living in the UK and provides a platform to showcase the best in Chinese arts, music and performance.
