The Princes Avenue STEP Scheme was led by the Highways & Transportation Team within Liverpool City Council. An initial public consultation undertaken in 2018 was followed with a wider community engagement programme developed by Culture Liverpool in partnership with the Friends of Princes Avenue (FOPA) and Mandela 8. The engagement programme helped shape the overall scheme and the creative elements within it to create a greater sense of place and ownership and to act as a storytelling opportunity, linking the scheme to the Mandela Memorial Project in Princes Park and ensuring a legacy for the project and ongoing support with events and activities on the Avenue.
