Edge Hill’s International Centre on Racism will be screening the UK Premiere of Wilmington on Fire, a new and deeply impactful film about Black history. The film is directed by African American director Chris Everett and documents one of the events that started the grim era of white supremacy and segregation in the U.S. that dominated America for decades.

In 1898, a white mob attacked the black-governed city of Wilmington, North Carolina, killing up to 300 people and removing black elected officials from office. Until now this tragic event has been kept out of the history books. This is your chance to learn why.

Following this educational screening there will be a live Q&A with the director via video link so guests can learn why the events in Wilmington are so important and how he created the film.

Programme:

5.30pm  Arrival and Refreshments
6.15pm  Film start
7.45pm Q&A with Director Chris Everett via video link
