Movema are bringing back their community performance group for the 13th year of Chinese New Year. This year will be bigger and better as we are celebrating last year and this year together due to the pandemic. Water Tiger has been funded by Arts Council England, Pagoda and Liverpool City Council and will be part of the city wide Chinese New Year celebrations in the oldest China Town in the Europe – Liverpool.

This project will explore the cultural history of Chinese New Year and self-celebration, embracing the fact everyone is different but we are accepted and special. It will also explore the meaning of Home and belonging. What makes Liverpool a unique and special home.

Pei Tong, Movema – Artistic director/ producer


The piece is a blend of traditional Chinese classical and folk dance with contemporary twist. The dance, costume and songs have been co-created by all the participants.
