“After careful consideration and following government guidance, we have made the difficult decision not to go ahead with this year’s River Festival which was due to take place along the waterfront from 8-10 May.

“It is important we prioritise the health and safety of everyone in these unprecedented times.

“We’re gutted. l know how much this event means to residents, visitors, local suppliers and artists, and how much money goes in to the local economy as a result of staging it.

“We are waiting to hear further advice from government on how they will support our sector moving forward and protect jobs.

“The rest of the city’s events season is currently being reviewed, and we will bring you news as soon as we have it.”
