#OnThisDay In 1795, our very own @liverpooltownhall was damaged by a fire which it's thought, was smouldering for a few days between floors. Construction works started on the renovations which featured a new dome which can still be seen today, completed in 1802 - we think it looks rather good for its age, don't you? 🎉 🏛️

#OnThisDay While travel might be off the cards at the moment, on this day in 1892 travel was the word of the day in Liverpool as the Liverpool Central underground station was officially opened!

Built in 1886, it was known as The Mersey Railway and already linked Liverpool to Birkenhead and this exciting new addition brought additional options for travel to Central Station and Rock Ferry. 🚂 🏗️

#OnThisDay Back in 1941, on this day, German warplanes undertook a heavy bombing raid on Liverpool as part of WW2. Earlier raids had damaged stables in Newsham Park but on this day the Docks experienced heavy bombing as well as houses in Everton and South Liverpool.

#OnThisDay Back in 1910 today, the panto season in Liverpool began (oh yes it did!) One of the highlights of the era was Aladdin, performed at Kelly's Theatre in Paradise Street.
