Tickets are now on sale for the World Gymnastics Championships, which will see the best gymnasts from across the globe heading to Liverpool, from 29 October – 6 November 2022.

Over 500 gymnasts from 75 countries are expected to compete at the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, making it one of the largest international sporting events ever to be held in the city and placing Liverpool at the heart of the action.

The competition also acts as a qualifying event for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and is expected to therefore draw-in the leading names in global gymnastics to fight for their spot on the plane to Paris, as well as the chance to be crowned as World champion.

The primary global gymnastics competition has today unveiled that tickets are now on sale, with tickets starting from as little as £30 for adults and £10 for concessions, with hospitality packages available at the iconic M&S Bank Arena, situated along Liverpool’s historic waterfront.

Next year’s showpiece will play a vital role in Liverpool’s recovery from Covid-19. Liverpool City Council has identified ten Pandemic Pledges, which will see the city come together to build a better, brighter and fairer future for the people of Liverpool.

The World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022 features heavily within ‘The Comeback’ pledge, which focuses on revitalising the city’s cultural and hospitality sectors. Throughout 2021 there will be cultural activity programmed in the city centre, tied into the preparations for next year’s Championships.

World, European, Commonwealth Champion & Olympic Bronze medallist Beth Tweddle MBE, said:

“The World Gymnastics Championships is going to be really special not only to me, but also to Liverpool. The city has a proud connection with gymnastics, so it seems only fitting to have the best from across the globe compete here.

“I have competed on this stage so many times throughout my career, so know all about the immense pressures and excitement of the occasion for gymnasts, but also the positive impact it can have on the local area. Liverpool will be buzzing and there is no doubt of the mark the competition will make across the city and North-West in particular. Nothing beats a home event for me and I know that all athletes and travelling spectators will receive a warm and inclusive reception and a world-leading experience at the event, and throughout the city.

“We’ve seen an odd year for sport, in light of the pandemic, so having major events like this on the horizon, on our doorstep, gives us all hope. We can see from the European Gymnastics Championships currently taking place in Basel that there’s so much young and exciting talent that have missed out on shining on the main stage over the last 12 months and we can’t wait to welcome them to Liverpool next year.”

The staging of the event will also provide the Championships and its partners with opportunities to inspire communities through sport; to encourage everyone to get involved whether it be through volunteering, schools programming or wider initiatives focused on health and social inclusion.

The World Gymnastics Championships will showcase not only elite sport, with 72 World Championship medals across 14 events, but highlight the passion and culture of the city, delivering a uniquely Liverpudlian welcome to the fans and athletes.

The global sporting competition is committed to placing gymnasts at the heart of the event, enabling Gymnasts to deliver their best-ever performances, whilst showcasing the capabilities of Liverpool, and the UK, in hosting major events.

Gemma Williams Fox, event director at World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022, said:

“Major events can have some of the most significant impact to local communities in terms of generating sporting interest. We all know about the power of sport and the benefits it has not only to the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals, but the socio-economic opportunities it offers communities.

“Following the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games Gymnastics saw a real boost in participation and following, so we are confident in being able to leave similar impact as a result of the World Gymnastics Championships.”
