For the first time Merseyside’s biggest art, design and craft fair will move to Liverpool Anglican Cathedral where shoppers can experience a massive festive market in the awe-inspiring surroundings of this Grade I listed space.
Taking place on Saturday 3 December the Winter Arts Market will feature stalls from a curated selection of over 200 artists and makers selling everything from paintings and jewellery to screen-prints, Christmas decorations, cards, photography, homewares, glassware, textiles and handmade beauty products. Shoppers can purchase directly from local artists and makers, choosing from the thousands of hand made unique items on offer; helping to support independent businesses and keeping money in the local creative economy.
Shoppers can also explore a Food Fair in the Dining Room offering everything from homemade jams, pickles and chutneys to handcrafted chocolates, local honey, and luxury blended teas. A Vintage Fair in the Concert Room will be brimful of clothing and accessories from times gone by for men and women.
Just some of the 200 exhibitors include:
— Andrew Downie is a stone carver from Wirral, selling pieces for home and garden including Viking chess sets and Greenmen and women.
— Scott Duffey of Toucan Tango sells a range of art prints and gig posters designed to make you, or someone else, feel good. All his work is printed on 100% recycled card and he has recently begun experimenting with making his own paint from recycled materials.
— Abigail Roberts and Sarah Ewer have worked together for many years, and now run a small business. Their alternative Christmas wreaths are unique in style, colour and fragrance; from the traditional round door wreath, to chic and contemporary and the wild and natural.
— Sandra Hepworth’s textile art pieces are truly original; no two are the same. Quirky and fun with a Liverpool theme, her work is both affordable and instantly recognisable.
Artist and exhibitor Sandra Hepworth said: ‘I’ve been taking part in the Winter Arts Market for a number of years and it’s always a great event to be part of; a lovely festive atmosphere and fantastic people! I’m really looking forward to this year – the Cathedral is such a beautiful venue!’
A special Processional Evensong takes place from 3pm – 3.45pm. Evensong is a service sung in English Cathedrals every day, and everyone is welcome to hear as great music joins forces with glorious architecture; filling the space with a sung conversation which began long before we were born. Trading will pause during Processional Evensong.
As always the popular Silly Scientists from KECS Creative will host the children’s Craft Lab, a simple and fun workshop where little ones can make their own climbing Christmas characters to adorn your home and make you smile! Open 11am—4pm.
Organised by Liverpool social enterprise Open Culture since 2009, the Winter Arts Market gives thousands of people the chance to purchase affordable, unique work and Christmas gifts directly from local artists and makers; helping to support independent businesses and keeping money in the local economy.
