Echo Arena Liverpool hosts this year’s star-studded awards ceremony on Sunday 17th December as another incredible 12 months of sport is celebrated in style. Presenters Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Gary Lineker will be joined in the arena by an audience of around 11,000, plus millions of viewers tuning in at home as the event is broadcast live on BBC One.

This will be the second time that BBC Sports Personality of the Year has come from Liverpool, having previously hosted it back in 2008 when cyclist Sir Chris Hoy won the prestigious award. Home to Premier League teams Everton and Liverpool, the city is no stranger to sporting stars and is the birthplace of footballers Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and boxer Tony Bellew, to name just a few.

Presenter Gabby Logan is excited to be making a return with the show:

“I love Liverpool. There is a real sense of passion and pride about the place and the people who live there. We want to create a fantastic atmosphere on the night for everyone in the arena and at home – I know Liverpool will deliver that.”

Last year saw Wimbledon champion Sir Andy Murray crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year for a record third time, ahead of triathlete Alistair Brownlee and showjumper Nick Skelton. In a year which has once again seen British sports stars excel on the world stage, 2017 will have no shortage of talented sports men and women vying to take home the coveted award.
