The 2017 Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon & Half Marathon has announced that rock legends Republica, will headline the Finish Festival Concert outside Echo Arena on May 28th. They will replace The Wonder Stuff who were forced to pull out due to the sudden accident of a band member. In addition to the headliner concert, live bands of every genre will play along the race course entertaining and encouraging runners as they make their way to the finish line. The finish line festival is free and open to the public with ongoing entertainment running from 10:30am-4pm; Republica take the stage at 2pm.

Formed in the early 90’s, Republica have achieved sales of over 3 million albums going Top 5 in UK, US and Europe and achieving platinum sales worldwide. The track ‘Ready To Go’ went to No. 1 in 18 countries and has been featured in Hollywood movies, TV Shows and in international advertising campaigns. ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ was used as the theme to ‘Scream’, the Wez Craven Horror Movie and ‘Beauty Never Fades’ by Junkie XL ft. Saffron reached No. 1 in Poland. After a long hiatus they started touring and releasing again in 2009.

Republica has come back strong since the end of their hiatus in 2008. Since then, they continue to wow crowds all over the world and show no signs of slowing down any time in the near future.

The announcement of the new headline act comes just 3 days before the deadline to register for Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool, which is this Sunday, May 22nd. This year will be biggest Rock ‘n’ Roll ever to take place in Liverpool with more than 20,000 runners expected to take part.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon is known for putting local bands and live entertainment along the course to encourage runners as they make their way to the finish line. The musically themed race concludes with a finish festival and headline concert outside of Echo Arena to celebrate the day’s achievements. Last year’s event brought record breaking numbers to Liverpool with 16,000 registrants and a total economic impact of about ₤7.26 million.

The marathon and half marathon will start and finish by the Albert Dock, one of the most visited attractions in the UK and a World Heritage Site. The races feature scenic views of Liverpool’s stunning docks, rich architecture, spectacular museums and historic commercial districts.  A mile fun run is held mid-day for youngsters and families. There are medals for all finishers.

A 5K kicks off the weekend on Saturday at Albert Dock giving runners the opportunity to register for the Remix Challenge. Those who participate in the 5K and any race on Sunday will complete the Challenge and earn a bonus third medal. In its first year, the 5K was given the Running Award for the Best Fun Run in the UK.
