Throughout August, Pier Head Village will welcome back award-winning wood sculptor, Simon O’Rourke who will transform tree trunks into unique statues of some of Liverpool’s biggest icons in aid of charity.
Simon O’Rourke will entertain audiences over two weekends, as he meticulously carves Liverpool legends, including the late greats – Sir Ken Dodd and Cilla Black OBE, the newly knighted ‘God’ of Liverpool Football Club (LFC), Sir Kenny Dalglish and the equally legendary Bill Shankly.
The free event will commence this coming weekend from 12pm – 7pm, on the green located at The Pier Head (opposite Matou), and continue again over 26 – 27th August. Each installation will take approximately six hours per day over to complete, with Bill Shankly being the first installation to be created.
Simon O’Rourke has built up a tremendous reputation for producing amazing wood sculptures from waste timber or standing stumps, using only a variety of power and hand tools and he is set to wow crowds once again with his interactive performance and latest creations.
In 2017, Simon O’Rourke’s creation of “The Beatles” raised £6,000 for Variety, The Children’s Charity. This year, the exhibition will conclude with a live auction, with proceeds once again going to Variety, The Children’s Charity.

We are entering an exciting time and next year as Variety, the Children’s Charity celebrates 70 years of improving the lives of disabled, sick and disadvantaged children across the UK.
“Money raised from this event will be used to help children in Merseyside that are in need of our support”.
