A BOOK of Condolence with more than 800 tributes to Sir Ken Dodd will be handed over to his widow by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

The heart-warming messages were left at Liverpool Town Hall in the days following Sir Ken’s death in March by people from the city and as far afield as Australia, Canada, the USA, Spain, France and even Venezuela.

The specially bound volume, which also contain photographs of Sir Ken, will be presented to Lady Anne Dodd by Cllr Malcolm Kennedy on Tuesday 8 May.

Cllr Kennedy said: “The outpouring of love and affection for Sir Ken following his death was truly remarkable but not surprising given the huge contribution he had made to life in Liverpool during his 90 years.

“His passing was a really sad day for the entire city and that has been reflected in the number of people wanting to pay their respects, both at his funeral and in the Book of Condolence.

“It is a real privilege for me to be able to hand them over to Lady Anne and I know she will treasure them as a reminder of his unique talent as one of the greatest entertainers ever.”

Lady Anne Dodd said: I am extremely touched by the wonderful memories and tributes paid to Ken by the people of Liverpool in this very special book of condolence that I will treasure forever.

“As everyone knows, Ken was a true son of Liverpool who loved his city and the people within it. I was extremely moved by the love shown to him on the day of his funeral and this book serves to confirm the love and respect in which he was (and continues to be) held by his fellow Liverpudlians.

“My eternal thanks go out to all those who paid homage to my dear Ken on his sad passing and I am comforted by the wonderful messages written by so many in such a special book of condolence. I really cannot find enough suitable words to tell everyone what this means to myself and Ken’s family.”
