This year’s Africa Oyé festival in Sefton Park has received a boost from Liverpool City Council after it pledged additional funding towards the annual free celebration of music and culture as part of its Liverpool 2018 programme.

On 16-17 June 2018, Liverpool’s Sefton Park will once again be taken over by the sounds and sights of Africa and the Caribbean for two free days of fantastic live music, DJs, dance, workshops, food stalls and a range of traders in the Oyé Village.

The event is the largest celebration of African and Caribbean music and culture in the country and remains free for its 26th year.

This year the event features headline performances from international afro roots star and humanitarian activist Rocky Dawuni as well as reggae legends Inner Circle, celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Africa Oyé’s Artistic Director, Paul Duhaney, said: “With the costs going up year on year, the challenge of keeping the festival free entry certainly isn’t getting any easier. We’re very grateful to Liverpool City Council who have come through with this enhancement funding as it means we can continue to meet the high standards that visitors from the world over now expect of our festival. Thanks to them we have been able to book two fantastic headliners as well as cover increased infrastructure costs so it’s been a real blessing.”

The 2018 Africa Oyé festival will take place on 16 and 17 June, 2018 in Liverpool’s Sefton Park from 12:30pm – 9:30pm both days and entrance is FREE. For more information on the festival and other events held across the country by Africa Oyé please visit africaoye.com.
