England’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jade Clarke joined local schoolchildren in Liverpool today to mark one year to go until the Netball World Cup 2019 gets underway in the city.

Clarke – who is England’s most-capped player – joined a group of eight children from Phoenix Netball Club for a skills masterclass on the piazza outside the Echo Arena, the venue for the event which takes place from 12-21 July 2019.

The children – from St Julie’s Catholic High School, King David Primary School, St Edward’s College, and Sudley Primary School – were then invited to put their questions to the England Roses and Wasps Netball player.

Following the event, Jade Clarke, said:

“It’s amazing to be here, after the Commonwealth Games we just want the momentum to keep going, so it’s perfect that we’re in Liverpool getting ready for our home World Cup in just one year’s time.

“The performance we put on in Australia won’t be good enough here, the Australians are coming for us and we’ll need everyone’s support behind us.”

Lindsay Impett, Netball World Cup 2019 Event Director commented:

“Through Netball World Cup 2019 we want to empower and inspire women and girls around the world, so we are delighted to have marked the ‘one year to go’ milestone with an event that these young netballers will always remember.

“We look forward to creating many more inspirational opportunities for our global netball family as we countdown to next summer’s tournament.”

The tournament – which is to be delivered by Netball World Cup 2019 Limited in partnership with the INF, England Netball, UK Sport, Liverpool City Council and ACC Liverpool – will see the top 16 teams in the world go head-to-head over 10 days of thrilling competition at the Echo Arena Liverpool, part of the ACC Liverpool campus.

Tickets for the event are set to go on pre-sale to anyone who signs up for the event website from 7-27 July, before going on general sale on 19 September 2018.
