ONE of the city’s biggest music events is on the hunt for up and coming Liverpool artist to showcase their talent to thousands of festival goers.
The award winning Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF) returns to Sefton Park on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 July, and the team are on the look-out for an emerging visual artist to give a make-over to the iconic 7ft tall LIMF letters which have been the backdrop for thousands of photos and selfies over the years.
The brief is simple – the design has to reflect the spirit of LIMF and its commitment to celebrating the city’s music culture by giving a platform to brand new, home-grown talent as well as household names. The theme of this year’s festival is Co-exist and Connection in a nod to how people, regardless of their background, find common-ground through music which inspires and influences them.
To be in with a chance of making their mark on these iconic letters, budding or experienced artists need to send in a design which could be used on the four letters, and if possible, any examples of work already they have already produced.
Once the artist has been selected, they will be invited to Sefton Park in the days running up to the festival to create their masterpiece. The finishing touches are to be made on Friday 20 July when it will be unveiled publically for the first time.
The finished result will then take pride of place on site at LIMF, picture perfect for thousands of selfies.
A fee will be paid to the winning artist which will cover materials and time.

LIMF Curator, Yaw Owusu, said: “This festival is all about shining the spotlight on emerging music talent and now we want to give a visual artist the opportunity to make their mark on LIMF.
“It’s a cross-art collaboration with a wide brief to encourage creativity – our music scene, the culture in which we listen to and enjoy live music along with our music ambitions should all act as inspiration and result in some really incredible pieces of art.
“The LIMF letters are always a photographic hot-bed on the festival site and as they’re white they are a blank canvas so people can let their imaginations run wild. I look forward to judging the entries and working with the lucky winner to bring his or her sketches to life.”

This year, more than 70 high calibre artists will take to the Sefton Park stages offering up 18 hours’ worth of unforgettable live music over two days.
For just £5 a day advance ticket, festival goers can enjoy performances across four music areas – Central Stage, True School Club House Stage and the itsliverpool Next Gen Stage – and there is also the return of the popular DJ tent, The Shubz DJ Tent, which proved to be a huge hit in its inaugural 2017 year.
Saturday headliners for this year include Example & DJ Wire renowned for their high-energy festival set, and also taking to the stage will be the godfather of grime Wiley, NME’s Best New Artist Stefflon Don and Brit Awards nominee Jax Jones.
Haçienda Classiçal top the Sunday night bill with a brand new set for 2018 which will see the club’s original DJ partnership, Graeme Park and Mike Pickering, reinterpret seminal dance classics with the Manchester Camerata orchestra alongside some special guests.
Sunday also sees LIMF welcome back Basement Jaxx who will raise energy levels even higher ahead of Haçienda Classiçal with their renowned DJ set.
The 2018 line-up also includes rising star Rae Morris, the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff, acclaimed Norwegian singer songwriter Aurora, presenter and R&B guru Trevor Nelson, Soul II Soul’s Jazzie B, BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, hip-hop aficionado Tim Westwood and Mercury Prize winners Young Fathers.
This is the first year the Sefton Park event will be fenced and ticketed. Advanced tickets start at £5 per person per day for general admission and £15 for VIP on Sunday (Saturday has sold out).
No alcohol will be allowed to be brought in, but can be purchased on site by those who are over 18 years of age. Festivalgoers are allowed to bring in their own food and unopened soft drinks – although glass will not be allowed on site.

- Advanced general tickets will start from just £5 per person, per day. Ages 11 and under go free but must still have a ticket.
- As it gets closer to the event, tickets will be £10 per person per day, and this will be the same price for walk-ups on the weekend itself.
- Advanced VIP tickets for Sunday start from £15 per person in the run up to the festival. Anyone under the age of 14 will not be permitted to enter the VIP area.
- Everyone, even under 11s, needs a ticket to enter the LIMF site.
