Over 50 works will be available to purchase, generously donated by artists who have previously exhibited at the Liverpool venue. The money raised will help the UK’s oldest arts centre continue to support artists.

The 54 artworks available in the auction are by artists included in Public View, Bluecoat’s exhibition earlier this year that started its 300th anniversary programme. That show displayed work by some of the many hundreds of artists who have shown at the gallery, and reflected Bluecoat’s curatorial interests and distinctiveness over a 50 year period.

There will be a wide variety of original artworks available in the auction, including paintings, sculptures, photographs and prints. Bidders can expect to find work by figures of local, regional, and international significance, as well as a mixture of both established and up-and-coming contemporary artists, including Derek Boshier, Sonia Boyce, Jeremy Deller, John Monks, Yoko Ono, The Singh Twins and Yinka Shonibare MBE.

Mary Cloake, Chief Executive of Bluecoat, said,

“We are holding this auction at a vital time for Bluecoat. As we near the end of our 300th anniversary year, we begin to look forward to the future, and the funds raised in this auction will allow Bluecoat to continue supporting creativity, freedom of expression and the cultural community of the region. We are truly grateful to all the artists who have kindly donated to our auction. Bluecoat has always cared for and supported artists, and we truly appreciate having that care and support reciprocated.”

The auction will be coordinated by the international online auction house Paddle8, who specialise in connecting artists and galleries with a worldwide network on collectors.

The auction is available to preview from Mon 16 Oct, with the auction live from Mon 23 Oct – Mon 6 Nov.
