As the evenings begin to get lighter, why not get creative (or treat someone to a unique gift) and sign up to a 10 week course or a 1 day workshop. New courses this season include Beginners Woodcarving and Portrait Drawing.

The second week of May sees our evening classes begin, starting at Bluecoat who once again will be hosting the popular 10 week evening courses in Life Drawing, Beginners Painting (Acrylics) and Jewellery Making in Metal, as well as a Beginners Digital Photography Day in April, perfect for those who want to get their cameras off the Auto setting! New for this season, in May we have a Sunday Smartphone Photography session, where photographer Mark to take photographs like a pro using just your smartphone camera.

Hope Street Ltd will be again be hosting Richard Meaghan’s 10 week evening course in Intermediate Painting (Oils), designed for those with some painting experience, or as a follow on to his Beginners Painting course, as well as a new Portrait Drawing course with artist Kathy Dereli. Starting from the basics, your tutor will provide exercises and tuition to help you improve your portrait drawing or help get you started.

Taking place in Faith Bebbington’s Studio, we have a new Wood Carving for beginners course, led by Faith herself. This 10 week course includes an introduction to wood carving, a look at the range of carving tools, how to select and choose your wood, different ways to finish the surface and finally, the creation of your own wood carving inspired by natural forms.

Over in south Liverpool, we continue our series of Sketching in the Palm House events at Sefton Park Palm House in May and July, with Josie Jenkins. In addition we have a 10 Week Drawing in the Palm House evening course led by Eimear Kavanagh. Both the one day and 10 week courses will give you the opportunity to learn or recap basic techniques to help you draw from observation, try different materials and express what you see through drawing, in unique and inspiring surroundings. Also this season we have a Beginners Photowalk in June, led by Rachel Brewster, who will guide participants in a leisurely stroll around the Palm House and its surroundings, giving tips and tricks on how to get the best from your film, digital or even smartphone camera.
