The North West’s most visited free tourist attraction is inviting budding buccaneers and mythical mermaids of all ages to get involved in the event’s Pirates and Mermaid Parade. Inspired by the legendary Coney Island Mermaid Parade in America, the parade is one of the most exciting elements of this swashbuckling spectacular – and with over 50,000 people attending last year’s event, all eyes will be on you!

Clare Rawlinson, marketing manager, Albert Dock Liverpool, said:

“We introduced the parade to last year’s festival for the first time – and it was a true highlight, with children, parents and grandparents marching in full pirate and mermaid costume behind the beautiful Mermaid of Black Rock. We are thrilled to announce the parade’s return – and for the first time – it will be on both days of the event.

“We want the community to get involved – from toddler groups, rainbows, brownies, beavers, cubs, schools and nurseries, to companies looking for a bit of team bonding with a difference, fashion and performing arts students, charities, and those who simply love to dress up. Get in touch and help make this year’s parade the best one yet!”

Pirates on the Dock will feature thrilling live action under sail, theatrical swordfights and breathtaking stunts, music, dance, immersive street theatre and themed children’s entertainment, interwoven with local folklore and the fascinating heritage of the Liverpool Privateers who once plundered the seven seas.

Over its history, Liverpool’s waterfront has been the start of many hazardous and daring adventures and the homecoming scene of eventual triumph. Bigger and even better than last year, 2017’s Pirates on the Dock will celebrate this sense of intrepid adventure.

Groups wanting to take part in the parade need to contact programming @fitthebill.com. Individuals can simply join in on the day.
