Liverpool’s most visited free attraction launches Albert Dock Radio in partnership with National Broadcasting School.

Albert Dock Radio will provide a platform for training and apprenticeships for those interested in a career in broadcasting. Broadcasting from March 21, it will capture and celebrate the broad range of sights and sounds that make Albert Dock such a vibrant place.

The station will form part of the curriculum for a broadcasting training school for young people hoping to break into a career in media, who will capture fresh and engaging content about what is happening in and around the Dock, while creating a lasting archive of voices of visitors who make up the famous Grade I Listed attraction throughout the year.

Sue Grindrod, chief executive, Albert Dock Liverpool, said:

“Launching Albert Dock Radio in partnership with National Broadcasting School allows us to do two things, create engaging content for our visitors to enhance their experience, while at the same time we are creating opportunities for local young people to experience a career in media. We have a number of strands that will create opportunities for young people through the Albert Dock Charitable Foundation and now Albert Dock Radio. This is an incredible opportunity, and who knows, some of our graduates could end up being broadcast stars of the future.”

National Broadcasting School (NBS) is based in Liverpool and operates throughout the UK, working with major national radio groups to deliver broadcast skills development, along with school programmes and professional training. Many of its graduates have established successful careers as a direct result of the skills developed with NBS.

Jason Harborow, chairman, National Broadcasting School, added:

“We are so passionate about developing talent for broadcast, and when we explored partners, Albert Dock was our first call as it has its own community and it will give our students so many rich stories from every corner; from going behind the scenes at Tate Liverpool’s exhibitions, to traditional saddlery skills at Leather Satchel Company, all while creating an archive of the voices of people who live, work and visit the Dock on a daily basis. This is a professional radio station with the highest production values, the most amazing technology, and expert broadcast professionals who will share that depth of knowledge with the newest crop of up-and-coming broadcast talent who are trying to get a break into the industry.”

Albert Dock Radio will stream online via www.albertdock.com and is available on TuneIn and other radio apps on your smartphone, tablet, in-car, DTV and PC.
