This weekend Open Culture and Liverpool Cathedral stage the North West’s biggest arts, crafts and design market. The Summer Arts Market is an independent shopping experience like no other!

This year’s market will feature the work of some 200 of the region’s best artists, designers and makers and provides an incredible opportunity for the public to purchase work directly from the artist. Among the thousands of items for sale you’ll find photography, ceramics, children’s clothing, jewellery, homewares, illustration, screenprints, woodwork, beauty products – anything and everything you can imagine, and a bit more besides!

Downstairs in the Dining Room, a dedicated food fair will offer delicious artisan food and drink including handcrafted chocolate, blended teas, cheese, pies, bread, jams and chutneys, fruit liqueurs and much more.

Pop along the corridor to find a retro treasure trove in the expanded vintage fair; a whole mix of decades and eras to choose from and everything from jewellery, men’s and women’s clothing, books, homewares and vinyl to be found – be sure to take the time for a good look around!

Charlotte Corrie, Director of Open Culture, says:

‘We’re really looking forward to holding the Summer Arts Market in our new venue for the first time. We’ve got more stallholders than we’ve ever had for Summer before, and have expanded both the vintage and food offers as well. Along with all the other activity we have happening throughout the day, it’s going to be a really amazing event.’

Music will also play a big part in this year’s market, with pop-up performances from Sing Me Merseyside, Liverpool Ukulele Club and D’ukes of Hazzard throughout the day.

Mid-afternoon, trading will cease for a short while as the Cathedral rings out with the ethereal sound of Processional Evensong; it’s a relaxing, spiritual experience that will make sure you’re refreshed and ready for another few hours of shopping!

The Cathedral’s Welsford Café will be open all day serving a BBQ and other refreshments.

As well as all of that, the Craft Lab crew are back to keep you and the little ones entertained with an afternoon of science-themed crafting wonder; create your very own ingenious insect from recycled materials and see the fab side of physics!

The Summer Arts Market is organised by Liverpool social enterprise Open Culture, who have staged the event annually since 2013. The market aims to provide the public with a chance to purchase affordable, unique work directly from artists and makers; helping to support independent businesses in the creative economy and keeping money local. Open Culture also organise the seasonal sister event the Winter Arts Market, which takes place at the Cathedral on 2 December 2017.
