Movema

Since its inception in 2009 by founders Penny Caffrey, Ithalia Forel, Maria Malone and Pei Tong, Movema has gone from strength to strength, connecting with thousands of people each year.

Using dance from around the world as their inspiration, they deliver workshops, events, projects and professional performance to engage, educate and entertain.

In light of the government’s latest advice and guidelines on social distancing in response to COVID-19, they have taken the decision to suspend all classes and face-to-face activities.

Not to be deterred, however, the Movema team announced:

“Research has found that dancing bolsters physical and mental health by helping to improve posture and flexibility, lift mood and ease anxiety. It’s also a fun activity that sharpens the mind, increases aerobic power and strength, builds social bonds and can reduce pain and stiffness – which sounds like the perfect hobby to undertake right now…

We will be working remotely and looking into ways to keep you dancing from home and sharing positive energy during the coming weeks.

So let’s keep dancing! Let’s keep connected! Let’s keep sharing!”

What a perfect antidote to keep spirits lifted and a great way for those who are unable to exercise outdoors to engage in fun physical exercise in the comfort of their home.

Movema go on to say:

“We are so happy to be hosting some online World Fusion classes with our partners RISE Dance to bring us all together no matter how far apart we all are.

Join us to dance around the world, including; Afro Beat, Carnival, Reggaeton, Bollywood, Salsa, Yoga and much more.

The sessions will be for all levels and abilities, with a mixture of both gentle and up-tempo movements. So why not get your whole household dancing?”

Sessions will run every Tuesday evening at 7pm and Friday lunchtime at 12.30pm, and will be taught by a selection of Movema’s world dance experts from both Liverpool and Bristol.
