Magdalena Franczak was born in 1978. She is a painter and interdisciplinary artist whose projects use a variety of media including painting, drawing, installation, object, photography, and performance. She also works in theatres designing costumes, stage sets and engaging in performative actions. Active in public spaces, Magdalena creates large-size murals and small ‘views’ [widoczki] dug in the ground with girls and women in different places across Poland and Europe. She is interested in mythology and childhood rituals and combines memory, imagination and blind fate with the vigilant, analytical mind of an anthropologist. Living and working in Lublin, her projects have been presented in galleries, museums, theatres and public spaces around Poland as well as other countries.
