As with all events we understand that you might have lots of questions – from the best viewing locations for the displays and shows to where will be the public toilets be?

We have posted a few of these questions below along with their answers, as we receive more of your enquiries we will continue to add to these. As always though, if you’d prefer to speak to us direct, please visit our contact us page to get in touch.

Do I need to purchase tickets for the show?

The River of Light event is FREE for all – there is no charge and no need to purchase any tickets for the event. There will be a number of events taking place across the Liverpool and Wirral waterfronts – more information on which will be provided shortly.

Where is the best place to see the fireworks?

Both sides of the Mersey will provide spectacular views of the Firework display whether you are located on the Liverpool or Wirral waterfront.

There will be 3 barges positioned along the Mersey River where the fireworks will be set off from.  You can view the fireworks from anywhere along  the waterfront from Kings Wharf (behind the Echo Arena), Albert Dock, Pier Head and Princes Parade plus along the waterfront on the Wirral side.We will post more information shortly on viewing areas and maps.

What time is the display?

There will be a variety of different activities taking place on the Liverpool and Wirral waterfronts in addition to other events in the city. More details will follow shortly but approximate times for activities are as follows.

Please note – all times are approx.

  • 4.00pm – animation starts – Albert Dock, Pier Head, Princes Parade (more information coming soon)
  • 5.30pm – drumming parade (route to be announced)
  • 6.30pm – fireworks along the Mersey River

Car Parking Arrangements

There are a number of car parks in and around the Liverpool waterfront area within walking distance of the event. The majority of City Centre car parks will remain open however please be aware of the traffic management measures that may be in place around the waterfront when planning your journey.

All car parks provide specific disabled parking bays.  There are no designated parking spaces assigned to this event.

Will there be any road closures?

There will be a number of road closures around the Pier Head – Canada Boulevard, Water Street, Brunswick Street and St Nicholas Place, plus Mann Island will be closed but access will be allowed for residents and businesses.

In addition. Princes Parade will be closed but access for residents and car park access will remain. The Albert Dock entrance will be closed and Gower St entrance/exit in the event of full capacity and Kings Wharf is closed to traffic in both directions.

A full road closure notice will be advertised in due course.

Will there be any official fireworks displays in the parks this year?

There will be NO fireworks displays in Newsham or Sefton Park in 2016.
