Writing on the Wall’s digital writing centre The Writer’s Bloc, a response to the social and mental health emergency arising out of lockdown, will welcome children’s author Patrice Lawrence and playwright Kevin Dyer to as Writers On The Bloc. These digital residencies will engage the community and writers in developing their skills, creativity and industry knowledge. All events are free to access and include In Conversations, Workshops, Bloc Social discussion events, Open House group sharing and 121 mentoring.

Patrice Lawrence, who will be our Writer on the Bloc from the 25th January to the 12th February, is an award-winning writer for children, teenagers and adults.  Her books include Orangeboy, (shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award and winner of the Bookseller YA Prize and Waterstones Prize for Older Children’s Fiction), Indigo Donut (winner of Bristol Crimefest YA Prize), Rose, Interrupted and Eight Pieces of Silva (Winner of Woman and Home Teen YA).  Patrice worked for more than 20 years in the not-for-profit sector promoting social justice and equality. She is a 2021 Costa Book Awards judge. Patrice will be covering the world of writing for children and young people.

Kevin Dyer, our Writer on the Bloc from the 22nd February – 12th March, is a multi-award wining playwright, director and actor. Winner of The Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Play for Children and Young People, the Inspiration Playwright Award presented by ASSITEJ, a UK Theatre Award and twice winner of the Olwen Wymark award. Kevin will be diving into the world of writing for theatre and the stage.
