Explore and create with mixed media on canvas.

Mixed media art is a type of visual art which incorporates various types of art media. By combining textures with unusual mediums, the end result is the creative accomplishment. Many techniques, materials and compositions play off each other when creating the piece. There is adventure in not knowing where you are going with it until you get there!

This workshop will present several methods of collecting and arranging, cutting apart and reconnecting, and building materials onto canvas.

This workshop/course is suitable for any anybody who loves experiment with colour and pattern, or anybody who has never tried before and just wants to have a go!

Programme

After an introduction to a range of contemporary artists who work in mixed media, the tutor will lead an interactive demonstration using a variety of materials (oil pastel, chalk pastel, gouache paints, acrylic, ink, PVA glue) and how they can work well together.

Using collage, you can experiment using textures and explore the difference between opaque/transparent medium and layering. Let go of the outcome and express yourself with experimentation of new techniques. Learn tips for the process of design and transferring image and create your own canvas to take home at the end ot the session.

Tutor: Eimear Kavanagh

Born in Ireland in 1973, Eimear studied BA Hons in Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at Bretton Hall University of Leeds, graduating in 1999. Based in Liverpool, Eimear works as a mixed media artist with a varied wealth of experience in the arts. Her body of work and previous commissions have taken her to India, Australia and back to Ireland. She has worked within fashion, public street art, textiles, illustration, album cover design; stage set design, tattoo art, schools education & community workshops. Eimear is currently working on her portfolio for an exhibition and residency in Iceland in 2018.

Situated in the centre of Liverpool, just behind Church Street, down Church Alley and in front of Liverpool ONE. You can enter the building via the front courtyard off School Lane, or through the garden at the back off College Lane. Nearest train station- Liverpool Central.

Cost:

£45 per session.

Materials:

You will need to bring at least one canvas to use and are encouraged to bring materials to experiment with, the rest of the basic materials will be provided at the venue.

Notes:

There are a maximum of 15 places available on each session, so early booking is essential.

Cancellations/Refunds:

Once you have made your course booking your are committed to it. This is because our courses have very small student numbers, and often sell-out and are unavailable to others. Therefore any cancellations may result in a place not being filled, or a course not being able to run.

Cancellations are permitted up to 30 days before the start of a course, and a full refund will be issued. Refunds will not be made for cancellations less than 30 days before the start of a course. If you are unable to attend due to illness, personal or professional commitments you do not have the right to a refund.

If you wish to cancel your place on a course that has not yet started and you have a friend or colleague who can take your place we can accommodate this substitution.
