We live in stressful times, finding ourselves feeling anxious about our past mistakes, our current work/home life and our future; this can often be relentless to the point of being overwhelming. It is well documented that mindfulness and relaxation can help people to focus more on the here and now leading to clearer, less negative thought processes that in turn alleviate stress and anxiety.

Being creative through drawing even for just a short period of time on a regular basis can help you focus and create a sense of well-being. This ten week evening course offers the opportunity to take time out of your busy schedule to spend time focusing on yourself and aims to encourage you to relax through drawing and being creative.

There is no right or wrong way to approach drawing, forget anything negative you may have heard in school or from other people, drawing is about making a mark on the paper, creating pattern and shape, it is not about creating a perfect portrait of a celebrity or painting a beautiful landscape.

Programme

This course will encourage you to have fun drawing and above all hopefully make you laugh and enjoy yourself. Over the ten weeks you will be introduced to the ideas behind ‘Mindfulness’ colouring books and encouraged to create your own drawings based on these principles. You will also be introduced to some interesting and not strictly conventional drawing techniques and materials and encouraged to explore drawing at your own pace. There is no assessment and no pressure to perform, just simple come along and enjoy yourself.

Tutor: Pamela Sullivan

Pamela is trained in traditional techniques in drawing which she uses to create well-crafted artworks with a modern sensibility. She has lead classes and demonstrations for several years.
