This year Culture Liverpool have commissioned some new events and ideas that acknowledge, reflect and celebrate Black History Month 2022. Through performance, visual art exhibitions, talks and panel discussions and alternative forms of presentation, the awarding artists responded to the theme ‘The power of words and the telling of shared histories’.

Throughout October and early November events will be produced by:

  • Steve Biko Housing Association – Black History Month Young Achievers Awards 2022.
  • Katumba Drumming & Movement – Routes & Roots – Katumba Halloween Festival 2022.
  • Sumuyya Khader – Blackness Rooted In Joy – a one night event featuring food, music and creativity.
  • Bea Freeman – BLACK SCREEN – celebrates and showcases the contribution of local, national and international Black filmmakers.
  • Betty Vandy and Jennifer Reid – Generations of vision – a culinary cooking class exploring the journey of how food has shaped past, present and future experiences.
  • Movema – The Spread Your Wings Conversation.
  • Nicola Duzant-Hayden – EPIPHANY BLISS – presents an evening of music, food and entertainment featuring African drum set AMBA, who are a local RnB girl group, and NYC rap artists TheRealManifest.
  • Jernice Easthope – the launch of 0483 with two events: Black Girls That Brunch and the screening of the Routes Jukebox documentary.
