Getting to and from the International Mersey River Festival could not be easier, whether you choose to travel on foot, by train, bike, bus, ferry or car.

If you’re travelling from further afield, there are a number of different ways you can arrive in the city.

Getting around by rail

  • Lime Street Station is Liverpool’s mainline station with trains arriving from Manchester, London, Scotland and the rest of the UK.
  • You can travel to the festival by train with Merseyrail, James Street Station is just a short walk from the event. A day saver ticket starts at £3.70 for adults or from £1.85 for under 18’s. A family of up to five (up to 2 adults and 3 children) can enjoy unlimited off-peak travel for just £10 with a Merseyrail Family Ticket.

Bus

  • There are two main city centre bus terminals and travel centers: Liverpool ONE Paradise Street Bus Station and Queen Square Bus Station where the friendly staff at Merseytravel can help you make the most of the bus network.
  • The city’s buses are fully accessible and there are a range of tickets that can give you great value on your visit.

City Bike

  • Cycling is permitted around the city with dedicated cycle parking available. Cycle parking and routes are available to view on the Liverpool cycle map.
  • The city also benefits from a citybike cycle hire scheme whereby you can hire a bike during your visit to the city for a small charge, find out more on Liverpool’s citybike cycle hire scheme. When visiting the festival why not take in the view and get there by citybike, there are over 1,000 bikes in the city and 160 stations. Ferry

  •  The Mersey Ferry connects Liverpool and the Wirral Peninsula calling at the Pier Head, Seacombe and Woodside. Air

  • Liverpool John Lennon Airport is around a 20-25minute taxi journey from Liverpool town centre.
  • Arriva Bus services to and from the airport include the 80A which depart from Liverpool One Bus Station every 20 minutes.
