HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh took time out to have lunch at Liverpool Town Hall during a visit to the city on Wednesday 22 June.

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness arrived at the Town Hall at around midday greeted by a contingent of Merseyside Sea Cadet Corps, before meeting a group of people were invited because of their work in the local community before making an appearance on the famous Town Hall balcony to wave to wellwishers on Castle Street.

Back inside the Hall a group of eight young people from St Vincent’s School performed the Hollies song ‘He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother’, before sitting down for lunch.

It is not the first time that The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have visited Liverpool Town Hall – they came during a trip to the city in July 2002 when they were entertained by a huge carnival on Castle Street as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
