village on the waterfrontJune  2016 will see the arrival of The Liverpool Village to the iconic Pier Head which is a celebration of independent city brands and adds yet another attraction for visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Officially opening on Thursday 30th June, The Liverpool Village – “A Festival of Things”, will be the UK’s first summer long festival, home to an eclectic mix of live music, street animation, food and drink outlets and a whole host of family-friendly activities including crazy golf, Segway rides along with Ninja Warrior and Total Wipeout-esque fun.

Martin O’Shea, managing director of The Liverpool Village, said: “To be able to bring a new three month festival attraction to the Pier Head is hugely exciting.  We are programming our most iconic space for the entire summer to mid September and want to engage and listen to everyone to make sure it keeps evolving. As our start point we are bringing a wide range of modern family-focused activities, street food and juice bars, live musicians and memorabilia, festival wear and souvenir retailers among other attractions. The build on the new structure, which will house one of two concepts to rival the coolest Mediterranean-style beach bars, is already underway.  There will be something for everyone at the Liverpool Village.

“This is Liverpool’s South Bank, its Rastro and its Ramblas all wrapped in to one, on what was recently voted as Europe’s finest waterfront.  It will now be animated throughout the summer and we’re looking forward to welcoming the world to the Pier Head and entertaining them all the way.”

Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: “From the ACC Liverpool, through Albert Dock and along to the three Graces, Liverpool’s waterfront is the a must see destination for tourists and residents alike. The Liverpool Village will bring a new twist to this space and create animation and excitement to one of the city’s most loved locations.

“The opening of The Jam exhibition in the Cunard Building on the 1 July is another real coup for the city, and a sign that this summer the waterfront is going to be more vibrant than ever.”

The Pier Head forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and brings together the majestic Three Graces of The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool building, making Liverpool’s waterfront one of the most recognised skylines in the world. Where more fitting to showcase a festival of all of the things which make Liverpool great?

The Liverpool Village is free to enter and is expected to run until early September. For more information go to www.theliverpoolvillage.com.
