The people of Liverpool are being given an extra chance to help break a Guiness World Record attempt for the city, as The Very Big Catwalk issues its final call-out for volunteers.
Saturday’s spectators will be offered the chance to join the record-breaking runway on the day. Scouts will be out and about gathering willing volunteers, who will have until 4pm to sign up. Members of the public can also visit Cunard Building (Canada Boulevard entrance) on Saturday at 4pm to register their interest in being part of the show.
Sponsored by retail giant Very.co.uk, The Very Big Catwalk, which will take place this Saturday 4 July at 5pm is part of the city’s Transatlantic 175 celebrations, curated by Wayne Hemingway MBE and organised by Liverpool City Council.
The series of events marks the 175th anniversary of transatlantic travel and celebrates the links between fashion capital New York and Liverpool. It will also include huge outdoor disco the Very Big After Party, a bespoke version of Wayne Hemingway MBE’s highly acclaimed Vintage Festival, a unique celebration of transatlantic cuisine, a car cavalcade and much more.
Anyone can take part and those who do will be in good company. Adding a touch of glamour to the catwalk will be The Saturdays and Xtra Factor star Rochelle Humes, and The Only Way is Essex’s star and DJ, Lauren Pope.
The Very Big Catwalk will be produced by TV and live event fashion producer Jane Galpin and hosted by British fashion expert and former editor of the BBC’s The Clothes Show, Caryn Franklin MBE.
Liverpool’s diverse DNA will be on display with everyone from the city’s community groups to carers, brides to belly dancers and ‘hairmazing’ models to hospice workers gracing the runway in an attempt to win the record for the city. The previous world record for the most people modelling on a catwalk is 3,083 and was achieved by the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Moda, Casa de Francia (Mexico) in Mexico City, Mexico, on 24 November 2013.
Discussing the record attempt, Wayne Hemingway, said: “Liverpool rarely does things by halves, and this is a chance to show, yet again, that it’s a city that punches above its weight on the world stage.
“We’re urging anyone and everyone, young or old, to come forward to play their part in this once in a lifetime World Record Attempt. It’s going to be quite a spectacle!”
