A City of Liverpool college student won critical acclaim and got a taste of his future career when his college project was picked to be published.
Media Production student Andrew Hadley is one of 25 City of Liverpool College students chosen to take part in a film editing competition organised by the college and Culture Liverpool.
The competition saw the students step into the role of media production professionals, given the job of editing the footage of Liverpool’s Service of Remembrance & Dedication, creating a five minute film, to be posted on the city council’s website.
Andrew, from Kensington, completed the project in his own time, alongside his college work. He said: “I am delighted to have won because I know first-hand how skilled other course members are and everybody worked so hard to produce their finished edit.
“This was a real challenge because we were working to tight deadlines and we had to deliver exactly what the client wanted whilst trying to inject some creativity and innovation. I must thank my tutors at The City of Liverpool College for giving me the expertise to complete this project and to Culture Liverpool for the opportunity to work in this real work situation.”
Andrew Hadley and runners-up Gavan Jackson and Rebecca Ellis had their films show to the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and special guests at a presentation ceremony hosted by Culture Liverpool at Liverpool Town Hall.
Pete McDevitt, Head of The City of Liverpool College’s School for Media, Journalism and Production, said: “This has been an exciting and hugely beneficial project for the students.
“They experienced what it was like to work to a client brief and deliver a broadcast standard product to a tight deadline. I am enormously proud of all the students and it was very difficult to pick a winner but Andy’s cut of the film was an incredibly professional piece of work.”
The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Erica Kemp CBE said: “ This has been a really rewarding project for us to work with the students of the college and see the young people put so much hard work into making a fabulous record of the city’s Service of Remembrance & Dedication.”
